Lavender Lemonade

Research and several clinical studies have proved the psychological effects of lavender fragrance combined with physiological effects of volatile oils in the limbic system (system of nerves that control emotions). Lavender has shown to decrease anxiety following the Hamilton rating scale. Lavender oil possesses amazing anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, antidepressant, and sedative properties. Adding this to lemonade helps ease anxiety and headaches, which in the summer can aggravate our mood.

ingredients
  • 6 cups of water
  • 1 cup of lemon juice (5-6 fresh lemons)
  • 1 cup of honey (raw and local is best)
  • 1/4 cup of dried lavender

preparation

Pour 1/2 of the water in a pan, bring to boil and remove from heat. Add the lavender and let steep for approximately 20 minutes, then add the honey. It is important not to add the honey while the water is still very hot because once the honey gets very hot it is not easily digested.

Prepare a container with the lemon juice and the other half of the water. Strain the lavender and honey mixture into a container, finally pour the lemon juice, and the remaining water.  Stir gently, keep refrigerated and enjoy!
